Mal Fletcher is a media/social futurist and commentator, keynote speaker, author, business leadership consultant and broadcaster currently based in London.
He is the Chairman of 2020 Plus which is an organisation to assist civic authorities, companies, charities and media groups as they prepared for rapid change during a near-global recession. The group produces research and publications dealing with future social change and innovative leadership solutions.
The emergence of Smart Industries and Smart Living, combining the analogue and digital worlds to free up time and speed up production, will create breakthrough approaches in lifestyles, science and industry.
Manchester, the home of so many hugely influential innovations in products and services, can play an exciting role at the forefront of the Smart Age, potentially further establishing itself as the ‘capital of the North’.
Alongside recent developments in Big Data Analytics, the Internet of Services (Cloud) and the emerging Internet of Things will create Smart Factories, which allow production and services tailored to very fluid needs.
Playing a prime role within the Smart Age will require a bold brand of leadership which moves well beyond the normal metrics of management and which focuses on exceptions rather than norms, seeing risk as the new status quo.
This new leadership will create cultures inwhich disruption and deconstruction are encouraged, while keeping clear end goals in mind.
The 2020Plus Event on May 14 will gather leaders from companies, institutions, associations and government facilities to share skills needed to engage with the Smart Age.
